Twelver
About Twelver
Twelver Shiʿism (Ithnā ʿAsharī, also called Imāmī or Jaʿfarī) is the largest branch of Shia Islam. It centers devotion and religious authority around the Prophet Muhammad’s family (Ahl al-Bayt) through a line of Twelve Imams—seen as exemplary guides for faith, ethics, and spiritual life. A defining belief is the continuing guidance of the Twelfth Imam (al-Mahdī) in occultation, alongside scholarly leadership in interpreting law and doctrine. This guide introduces Twelver Shiʿism respectfully and beginner-friendly: what the Imamate means, a high-level map of the Twelve Imams, how devotion and remembrance shape character (especially through Karbala and Imam Husayn), and common devotional texts and practices like duʿā, dhikr, and ziyārah. The goal is practical: steadier worship, stronger conscience, gentler speech, and justice-rooted compassion.
