About Theravada
Theravāda (“Teaching of the Elders”) is one of the oldest continuous Buddhist traditions and is closely associated with the Pāli Canon (Tipiṭaka) as a primary scriptural foundation. Theravāda practice emphasizes the Buddha’s path as a training in virtue (sīla), concentration (samādhi), and wisdom (paññā), leading to liberation from suffering (dukkha) through insight into impermanence (anicca), unsatisfactoriness (dukkha), and non-self (anattā). This guide introduces Theravāda in a beginner-friendly way: the Four Noble Truths, the Noble Eightfold Path, basic meditation approaches (mindfulness, calm, insight), ethical precepts and daily life practice, and the monastic/lay relationship that supports the tradition. It keeps the aim practical and compassionate: less greed, less hatred, less delusion—more clarity, steadiness, and kindness.
