Sufism
About Sufism
Sufism (taṣawwuf) is the inward, heart-centered dimension of Islamic life—often described as the pursuit of iḥsān: to worship God with presence and sincerity, as if you see Him, and to live with refined character. Sufi teaching is rooted in the Qur’an and the Prophetic way, and it focuses on inner purification (tazkiyah): reducing ego (nafs), healing destructive traits like pride, envy, anger, and heedlessness, and cultivating saving virtues like repentance, gratitude, patience, love, humility, and reliance on God. This guide introduces sufism respectfully and practically: core principles, common practices (dhikr, duʿā, self-accounting), major themes and vocabulary, how Sufi orders (ṭuruq) function, and how to navigate differences and controversies without polemics. It keeps the aim clear: a cleaner heart, kinder speech, steadier worship, and a life that reduces harm.
